Interested in Mountaineering, trekking or hiking? The snow – covered Equatorial peaks are located in Western Uganda, along the border with The Democratic republic of Congo. Made up of the Rwenzori Ranges, Africa’s tallest mountain range.

The distinctive glacial Rwenzori Mountain peaks are famous to hikers, who regard the mountain as the most challenging of all African mountains. The trails lead through the rain forest rattling with monkeys and birds, tall bamboo forests, before emerging on the high altitude moorland zone. This snow-capped mountain has an elevation reaching 5,109m, Africa’s third highest peak.

Schedule Details

DAY 1:

Travel From Kampala To Kasese. Dinner and Overnight at Hotel Margherita

DAY 2:

Climbing begins. Hiking begins at 5,400 ft (1,646 m), through 5 - 7 hours until 8,700 ft (2652 m). Dinner and overnight at Nyabitaba Hut.

DAY 3:

Climb to reach the John Matte hut (11,200 ft / 3414 m). Have Dinner and overnight.

DAY 4:

Climb to Bujuku Hut - 13,000 ft (3962 m). Dinner and overnight at Bujuku Hut.

DAY 5:

Climb to get to 13,200 ft (4023 m). Watch out for Altitude Sickness. Dinner and overnight at Kitandara Hut.

DAY 6:

Start early the descending process which may take approximately 5 hours through mist, rain plus mud. Dinner and overnight at Guy Yeoman Hut - 10,700 ft (3261 m)

DAY 7:

Continue descent of approximately 5 hours to level 2652 m. Dinner and overnight at Nyabitaba.

DAY 8:

Descend through 2-3 hours back to The Park Headquarters. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Margherita.

DAY 9:

Enjoy the drive back to Kampala, to arrive in the evening.
